Terrorism as urban practice; a manual on urban manifestation

This project addresses the urban security and anti-terrorism alterations and attempts to build a manual by cataloguing, categorizing and analyzing examples by their difference in techniques, tools, assessment criteria and relationship to the urban domain. It sketches an outline of mechanisms that are significant towards the understanding of the urban spatial physical, social, economic and architectural impact. The specific cases, both in the Netherlands and globally, are broken down and reconstructed as a set of criteria, tools or procedures to fuel the architectural role in such matters. The manual is tested by putting it content forward in the dialogues that are made between several parties drawn from the core counter terrorism community. A continuously expanding catalogue, seeks to contribute to the position and role of the architect in the (urban) design process, which, at the moment, is limited. The series of mechanisms that are subsequently revealed form the basis to assist in such matters. This project has been made possible with support of the Netherlands Architecture Fund.
